Ophena by QuatRx – a female viagra still under test

Well, some women have bad sex drive, which is due to many issues, such as stress, or some caused by post-menopausal problems which result pain while having sex…Ophena will be a new drug that could help some women to gain some sex drives, which works like a Viagra for the women.

QuatRx, considered as the most promising bio-tech company of Ann Arbor, is now into testing phase of its new drug, Ophena, as mentioned. It’s stepped into its second Phase III clinical trial for Ophena, which is meant to confirm positive results achieved during the first Phase III trial.

The trial will pull 750 women, getting them from 100 locations in the States, which the participants will receive daily dosage for over 12 weeks. But it sounds funny, if these post-menopausal women were highly sexually arouse during the trial period, who is gonna cool them down?

Viagra treats sexual dysfunction in men. Ophena would treat post-menopausal women who have vaginal atrophy – a condition that makes sexual activity difficult or painful due to dryness or irritation. But women who have vaginal atrophy and aren’t sexually active often still seek treatment.

The company is still seeking for FDA’s approval for their Ophena. Whether they can make it is a big question. But if they managed to get approved, it’ll hit the market by 2010 and they hope to capture the market as much as Viagra’s $1.8 billion! No information yet about what the side effect is after taking the Ophena – it could be common like those increase of heart beat, blood pressure… Or any likely to increase the risk of breast cancer? Will keep you updated later!
