Porsche plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder available for booking

Sports cars, Porsche have always been the dreamed cars for many people. And of course, you need to be rich enough to own such a sports car. FYI, Porsche has a hybrid version of its sports car known as Porsche plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder, which has been announced available for taking orders from their dealers, although its production will happen only two years plus from now.

The Porsche plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder makes use of the unique hybrid system which uses combined fuel consumption – the regular fuel and the electricity. The electrical power is produced by two electric motors generating a total of 218 horsepower. Electrical energy will be stored in a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, which can be recharged via standard household outlet. With the new hybrid system the sports car consumes only 3.0 L/100 km based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

There is no compromise of the power of the 918 Spyder. The sports car has a high-revving, mid-mounted V8 engine with capacity of more than 4.0 liters and producing at least 500 horsepower. The engine will be based on the Porsche RS Spyder racing engine that demonstrated its impressive performance and efficiency through multiple Michelin Green X Challenge victories in the American Le Mans Series.

The production of the hybrid 918 Spyder has not started yet but Porsche will produce no more than 918 pieces of this sports car. Start of production will be on Sept/18/2013 and the car will cost a whopping $845K when it reaches the US.

If you book the Porsche plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder now, you also get to order the special edition that Porsche has created, which is a Porsche 911 Turbo S Edition tagged with the Spyder. Two models of the Special Porsche 911 Turbo S will be available sometime later this year, known as Coupe and Cabriolet and priced at $160K+ and $172K USD respectively. For the super fans of Porsche sports cars, this is actually the good news. Find out more about the details of the Porsche plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder on the press release.
